William James
Alexy Jr.
Dec 10, 1933 — Mar 14, 2025
Solon
It is with immense sorrow that we announce the passing of William James Alexy, Jr. at the young age of 91 years. Mr. Alexy died Friday, March 14, 2025 in Cleveland, Ohio with his daughter by his side as he drifted peacefully to his heavenly home.
Mr. Alexy was born on December 10, 1933 in the village of New Haven, Michigan to William and Carrie (Barck) Alexy and graduated from New Haven High School Class of 1951. He went on to serve in the United States Army and served in Korea in the 7th Infantry Division. After his service, he decided to pursue banking and received an associates degree and received his first banking job in Seattle, Washington. After some time there, he returned to Michigan where he resided with his parents Bill and Carrie at the little house on Gratiot Avenue. He was always Grandpa Bill's right-hand man in the garden planting gladiolas, corn, tomatoes and lots of other vegetables and flowers. They were bowling buddies, and he hunted with his brother-in-law Lawrence, and lots of time spent on Lake St. Clair ice fishing. He loved his Tigers, Lions and Red Wings, but was a true blue Michigan Wolverine.
It was on New Year's Eve in 1967 that he met his future wife, Grace Wiesner, and was married only a short time after on March 9, 1968 at the old Trinity Lutheran Church in Mt. Clemens. Their first daughter, Jayne Doreen, came along and they decided to purchase land next to Bill and Carrie on Gratiot and more memories were made with even bigger gardens and the famous roadside stand where they sold their produce and flowers. Mr. Alexy was the Vice President of State Bank of Fraser for 25 years, a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church on Harper Road, an avid bowler, sang with the Good Men Chorus, and church choirs. His love of singing and gardening was his passion and taught his daughter the nuances of planting and cultivating not just vegetables and fruits, but love for family. When Jayne left for Las Vegas to start her own family, it only took a year for him to follow where he spent 23 years. He retired at age 70 from the City of Las Vegas as the senior collections officer, but never really retired as he took over the role of "Papa" to his grandchildren. When Grace became ill, Bill moved in with his daughter and ultimately moved with her family to Cleveland, Ohio where he lived his remaining years in his own "suite" of the family home surrounded by his grandchildren, dogs, and being spoiled at every opportunity. Bill was simple, always cracking a funny joke, flirting with nurses, singing at every chance he got, continued to garden with his daughter, and played music sun-up to sun- down. He never stopped moving and always "Kept the Faith."
He is survived by his daughter Jayne (Rob) Alexy-Klein of Solon, Ohio, granddaughter Alexy (Nick) Rollins of Las Vegas, Nevada, grandson Jack, granddaughter Jordan, great-grandchildren Reece and Emily, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his parents, William and Carrie (Barck) Alexy, wife Grace (Wiesner) Alexy; siblings Ruth (George) Rafferty, Carolyn (Phil) Rogers, Dorothy, Lois (Lawrence) Schultz, and Russell.
