Walter Louis
Sugierski
May 30, 1949 — Sep 5, 2025
Walter Louis Sugierski was born May 30, 1949 to Joseph and Helen Sugierski in Hamtramck, Michigan. He was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, great-uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend. He passed away surrounded by family on September 5th. He is survived by his wife Melanie (Ritter) Sugierski, daughter Melissa Sugierski (Chris Sulfridge), daughter Andrea (Scott) Mowery, grandson Braeden, granddaughter Sophia; sister Kathleen Polidori, brother-in-law Steven Ritter Jr, sister-in-law Penny (Eric) Tubbs, mother-in-law Diane Ritter, nieces Sadie (Sam) Lunt and Hannah (Andrew) Particka, nephew Ethan (Amber) Tubbs, great-niece Reed, great-nephew Tobin, cousins, and friends.
Walt is preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Raymond Polidori, father-in-law Steven Ritter Sr, and brother-in-law Rodney Ritter.
Walt's life work was his role at General Dynamics. He traveled all over the world for the majority of his career, sacrificing time with family while working in the defense industry. He was a proud American. He took great pride in his work, knowing that he was contributing to protect our nation and the troops. He loved his family, to read, to travel the world, to cook, watching Jeopardy, watching and attending sporting events, and he loved a good debate. After retiring, he and Melanie traveled extensively in their RV, working in Yellowstone and Mt. Rushmore, spending the winter in Florida, and visiting friends and family. He tried his hand at substitute teaching for a time, and spent time volunteering at his church, with the homeless and less fortunate, food pantries, and the Salvation Army.
He was fiercely protective of his family. They were the joy of his life. Once his grandchildren entered the world they were his everything. He loved to spoil them, there was hardly a visit where Grandma Sugar and Papa didn't bring at least a small gift of some kind. He spent as much time with the kids as he could- he wouldn't have missed Sophia's dance recital for the world, and he came to as many of her swim lessons as he could. He was so proud of grandson Braeden, driving all the way to Grand Rapids just to visit him at feeding therapy and watching some of his first bites of food. He was always thrilled to spend time with his family.
Walt put his faith in Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit lived in him and transformed his life. He will spend eternity with his Savior. Those of us who put our faith in Jesus Christ will see him again.
