Obituary

Vincent A. Meldrum, age 94, of Harrison Township, Michigan, passed away peacefully and surrounded by love at his home in the early morning hours on Sunday, June 13, 2021.

He was born on January 23, 1927, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Albert Meldrum and Rose (Addy) Meldrum. In July 1952, he married the love of his life, Marguerite "Marge" Pearl Ronson, and they moved to Harrison Township in 1971. After almost 69 years of marriage, Vince was predeceased by his lovely bride, and it was certainly love that has taken him to be with her, where they are dancing together again. One month proved to be too long to be without her.

Vince loved his family, his country, and his work. He enlisted in the Army and served honorably until 1946. His troop arrived on the shores of Sapporo, Japan, just as peace was declared, ending World War II. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal, and Army of Occupation Medal Japan. He was a member of the Bricklayers and Allied Craft Workers Union No. 02, and also the Catholic War Veterans. He was an incredibly hard worker and enjoyed being a bricklayer, which was not only his employment but also his passion. He found pleasure in bowling, listening to music, and cooking—especially his homemade soup.

Vince, a true family man, is survived by his eight children: Grant (Mary Ann) Meldrum, Coleen (Tim) Rocker, Kevin (Gina) Meldrum, Scott (Ann) Meldrum, Renee (Dennis) Edel, Mary (Tom) Konen, Michele Froehlich, and Daniel (Ashley) Meldrum. He was a grandfather of 20 and great-grandfather of 15. Vince was also predeceased by his wife, Marguerite Meldrum, exactly one month to the date of his death; his parents, Albert and Rose Meldrum; his sisters Rosemary (Pete) Roggeman, Theresa (Bob) Colman, and Marilyn (Joe) DeVuyst; and brothers Wilbur (Patricia) Meldrum and Philip (Lucy) Meldrum. He is survived by his sister Joan (Ray) Beauvais.

Quietly content, Vince once said,

" Because of my family, I'm the richest poor man I know ."
