Obituary

Theodore (Ted) Cichecki was born on October 29, 1932 the only child of Braunislaus (Barney) and Violet Zatezalo Cichecki in Hamtramck, Michigan. He was a hunter, angler, boater, teacher, musician, jokester, colorful man who was larger than life.

His school years took him to St Mary's Orchard Lake and later Pershing High School. No matter where he went he was a member in good standing of the House Street Gang, comprised of best friends that he kept throughout his entire life.

After High School, Ted attended Wayne State University and Eastern Michigan University, earning both his B.S and M.S. degrees in Education. The highlight of his college career was the day he watched "the cutest butt in class" walk by. After class, Ted asked Jo-Ann to get a 25-cent cup of coffee with him. One coffee date led to another. On the third date, Ted asked Jo-Ann to marry him. Amazingly, she said "yes." They married on July 5, 1958 and promptly bought a boat, a drum set and started their careers as teachers. Ted's career spanned 42 years, mainly at Cousino High School in Warren, where he was a beloved teacher to literally thousands of students.

After retirement, Ted and Jo-Ann began their second careers as snowbirds. For the next 18 years they migrated south ahead of the annual Michigan snows, where they travelled, fished, partied and developed a large flock of snowbird friends.

In July, Ted celebrated 60 years married to the woman with "the cutest butt in class." After 60 years, he still could never complete a sentence if Jo-Ann walked by, but had to tell everyone how much he loved her or how pretty she was.

Ted passed away on November 20, 2018 in the arms of the love of his life.

He leaves behind him his wife Marjorie (Jo-Ann) Cichecki, his three children Judi (Kenneth Erick), Theodore (Ted) Cichecki Jr. (Danita), and Laura (Christopher) Wenz; his nine grandchildren James (Laura), Shannon, Joseph (Sarah), Theodore (TJ) (Melissa), Deanna (Rafael), Anglene (Brad), Nathan, Adam, Brian and four great-grandchildren Belinda, Emalee, Ryan and Allison.
