Russell Henry Louis Hammond went home to Jesus on September 3, 2017 at the age of 91. His loving wife of 69 years, Joy, was at his side when he passed. Born April 18, 1926, Russ was a lifelong Macomb County resident. He graduated from Mt. Clemens High School in 1943 and entered the US Navy, serving as a submarine radio man during WWII. After the war he met Joyce Elaine Jensen and was married. Russ was a Mt. Clemens regular firefighter and then served as a volunteer for many years, retiring as Chief. He was employed by Detroit Edison (DTE Energy) as a service planner, retiring before he was 60 years old so he and Joy could spend time traveling and enjoying their family. For thirty years they were "snowbirds", spending winters in Lakeland Florida. Russ was a member of the Mt. Clemens Old Crowd, Metropolitan Club, VFW, American Legion, and WWII Submarine Veterans. He enjoyed golf, bowling, playing cards, carving ducks, riding motorcycles, and family times, especially those at their home on Armada Ridge Road in Richmond Township.
Russ was pre-deceased by his parents, Harvey and Margaret Hammond and an infant son, Mark. He is survived by his wife, Joy who resides at Rose Assisted Living in Clinton Township, son Robert (Carol) of Algonac, daughter Carol Wiltshire (Jim) of Warren, son Richard (Mary) of White Lake, sister Gloria Price of Mt. Clemens, sister Lorraine Beyer of Livonia, brother Edward Hammond of New Jersey, five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
