Rev. Roy Norman Nurse, age 85 of Mount Clemens, passed away Thursday morning at his home.

He was born December 4, 1931 to Elmer and Margaret (Mills) Nurse in Detroit, Michigan. On July 17, 1959 Roy was married to Barbara Jean Trump in Cleveland, Ohio. The couple resided in Metamora, Ohio for 4 years, in Owosso, Michigan for 12, then moved to Mount Clemens in 1973.

Mr. Nurse was a seminary school graduate of Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, where he also played football. Roy began his ministry in Metamora, Ohio, started and built Redeemer Lutheran Church in Owosso, Michigan, and came to be the Pastor at American Lutheran Church, Mount Clemens in 1973. He's been an ordained minister for 59 years, and remained a member of ALC. As a young man, Roy played AA professional baseball, and enjoyed, golfing, fishing, and vacationing at Houghton Lake.

He is survived by son, Michael Nurse; daughters, Christine Nurse and Lisa (Steve) Monson; grandchildren, Jacob, Michael, Jonathan, Ryan, Emma, and great grandson, Jack. Mr. Nurse was predeceased by his wife, Barbara on April 29, 2006, and brother, Alan Nurse.
Visiting hours are 2 - 9 p.m., Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at Will and Schwarzkoff Funeral Home, 233 Northbound Gratiot, Mount Clemens.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. (in state 10:00), Wednesday at American Lutheran Church, 38795 Mulberry, Clinton Township with Reverend Daniel Cave officiating.

Private burial will follow at Clinton Grove Memorial Park, Clinton Township.
