Roland "Jim"
Durst
Nov 26, 1939 — Aug 14, 2025
Roland "Jim" Durst, age 85 of Chesterfield, passed away Thursday morning at his home.
He was born November 26, 1939, a son of the late Roland and Mabel (Penzien) Durst.
Jim was united in marriage with Patricia Gillis, May 25, 1963 in Waldenburg, Michigan. He was known as Jim to all who knew him and loved him.
In his younger days Jim played hockey at the Brick Pond on Groesbeck. He loved sports, either playing or watching. He played softball in Mount Clemens, enjoyed bowling and after retirement started playing golf and euchre at the Rec Bowl.
He worked as a paperboy, set pins at the bowling alley and was employed at a furniture store, and the Mount Clemens Pottery. Jim worked most of his life as a house mover, first with his father, and later as a co-owner with his brother, Ron until retiring in 2001.
Jim loved life, loved laughing and teasing people, but most of all he loved his family.
He is survived by his high school sweetheart, and wife of 62 years, Patricia; dear father to two sons, David Allen (Tracey) Durst and Steven Durst; grandchildren, Michael and Taylor Durst; sisters in law, JoAnne and Susan Durst; sister, Carol Durst; many nieces and nephews, and many close friends who graduated together from Mount Clemens High School, and are still best friends. Jim was predeceased by brothers, Lloyd Durst, Ronnie Durst, Ken Durst; sister, Loraine Kuhn and her husband, Jerry Kuhn.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions to St. Jude Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
A celebration of life luncheon will be held at a later date.
