Richard Scott
Shorkey
Aug 19, 1942 — Jul 27, 2025
Richard Scott Shorkey, born August 19, 1942, in Mt. Clemens, Michigan passed
away peacefully on July 27, 2025. He was the son of the late Albert Shorkey and
Dorothy Shorkey (LeGue).
Rich, as he was lovingly known by his family and friends, was raised in Mt.
Clemens with his seven siblings, attending St. Louis Catholic High School. Rich's
parents owned and operated Uncle Andy's smoked fish on the banks of the Clinton
River, where Rich worked alongside his siblings. At a young age, Rich settled in
Harrison Township with his first wife Linda Holston and raised five children. Rich was a
machinist, operating boring mills; he was taught the trade by his late father-in-law
Gerald Holston in the early 1960s. Later, Rich married Pamela Masiano, settling in
Shelby Township. He remained a machinist for fifty years, retiring at age seventy-five. In
his later years he enjoyed walking, fishing, and playing keno.
Rich was the protector and provider of his family. He was a hard-working blue-
collar man who was not afraid to speak his mind, a trait that was passed onto his
children and grandchildren. He emphasized hard work, loyalty, and love above all else.
Rich was predeceased by his siblings Edith Norton, Bernard Shorkey, Harold
Shorkey and Danny Shorkey.
Rich is survived by his children Debby Dempsey, Doug (Lisa) Shorkey, Richard
(Stacey) Shorkey, Tammy Leahy, and Michael (Pamela) Shorkey; his grandchildren
Danielle Shorkey, Shane Wummel, Ricky Shorkey, Tiara (Danny) Hickey, Dylan (Olivia)
Shorkey, Jacob Shorkey, Ashlyn Frederick, Destiny Leahy, Hunter Shorkey, Christopher
Shorkey, Justin Leahy, Carmela Shorkey, and Conner Shorkey; his great grandchildren
Emalynn, Georgette, Richard, Rylee, Elliot, and Walker. He is also survived by his
brother Albert (Kryan) Shorkey of Mt. Clemens and his sisters Kathleen Reigel and
Diane Turpin of California.
