Nicholas Jon Gates, age 73 of Shelby Township, passed away Sunday, March 14, 2021 at his home.

He was born December 17, 1947 to Edward and Elsie (Palo) Gates in Detroit, Michigan. On May 5, 1984 Nicholas was married to Nancy Ann Whitmore.

Mr. Gates was a veteran of the United States Army. He was employed at Champion Spark Plug Co., owned the Gates Bar in Hamtramck, and owned Gates Construction in Shelby Township. Nick enjoyed shooting pool and playing cards.

Surviving is his wife, Nancy; son, Robert (Katie) Meuller; granddaughters, Isabelle and Sheena, and sisters, Cynthia and Linda. Mr. Gates was predeceased by his grandsons, Robert, Raymond and Brandin.

Visiting hours are from Noon until 6:00 p.m., Sunday, March 21, 2021 at Will and Schwarzkoff Funeral Home, 233 Northbound Gratiot, Mount Clemens.

Funeral services will be held at Noon, Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton Township.
