Maria L. Martinez, age 90 of Mount Clemens, passed away Tuesday at MediLodge of Shoreline, Sterling Heights.

She was born December 15, 1928 to Jesus and Modesta (Aguilar) Hernandez in San Antonio, Texas. Maria was married October 18, 1947 to Jose Martinez at St. Peter Catholic Church, Mount Clemens. A devout Catholic, Mrs. Martinez was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and the Salvation Army Senior Club. She took great joy in caring for children, especially her grandchildren, and a number of families she babysat for before her retirement.

Surviving are her children, Joseph (Autumn) Martinez, Lily Tillery, and Lucia (Robert Hayes) Guajardo; grandchildren, Annette, Jose (Shannon), Renee, Alycia, Jesse, and James; great grandchildren, Patricia (John), Justin, Jordan, Alexis, Jonah, Jaxon, Juliet, and Violet; great great grandson, Jack; and siblings, Jesse Hernandez and Lile Chisholm. Maria was predeceased by her husband, Jose Martinez; son in law, George Tillery; great grandson, Jacob Martinez; and siblings, Magdelena Rodriguez, Dora Rico and John Hernandez.

Visiting hours are 2:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Sunday, March 17, 2019 at Will and Schwarzkoff Funeral Home, 233 Northbound Gratiot, Mount Clemens.

Funeral mass 9:30 a.m. (in state 9:00) Monday at St. Peter Catholic Church, 95 Market Street, Mount Clemens with Father Michael N. Cooney officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter Catholic Cemetery, Clinton Township.
