We lost our beloved Gramie and Oma, Ida (Cottrell) Simmers, July 1, 2022.  She lived a beautiful 92 years. She is reunited with her husband of 52 years, Vernon Simmers Sr.

Ida was born on December 30, 1929, in Pennsylvania. She married Vernon Sr. on April 8, 1946. She worked tirelessly throughout her life as a military wife and mother.  Later in Michigan, she waitressed and managed at the Wurst House and Kurtz Heidelberg restaurant in Mt. Clemens. She worked at Selfridge Air Base's Golf Course, and General Hospital (McClaren) in Mt. Clemens.  Even after she retired, she spent countless hours volunteering at the hospital where she was known and loved for many years.

Our Oma was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  Her true happiness rested in, as many visits as possible from her family, and of course coffee!  She was a parishioner at the chapel at Selfridge and Immanuel Lutheran Church in Macomb.

Ida is grieved by sibling Valetta Bradosky, children Vernon Jr., Gary (Janice) Simmers, and Debra (Ray) Boggus, five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her parents, Fred and Vesta Cottrell and her seven brothers and sisters.

A Memorial/Visitation will be held at Will & Schwarzkoff Funeral Home, 233 Northbound Gratiot, Mount Clemens, Michigan 48043 on Friday, July 15th from 2-8PM.
