Howard Shipley Smith Jr., age 73 of Chesterfield, passed away September 24, 2023 at his home.

He was born April 25, 1950 to Marguerite (Flanagan) and Howard Smith Sr. in Detroit, Michigan. On November 5, 2004 Howard was united in marriage with the former Carol Failla in Shelby Township.

Howard served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, and was a 35 year employee of the Ford Motor Company. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, going to the casino, and sitting on the water.

Surviving is his wife, Carol; children, Daniel Shipley (Jennifer Johnson) Smith, Ellen Marie (Paul Bilodeau) Cullen, Christopher Alexander (Shannon) Eschenburg, Timothy Robert Eschenburg and Rebecca Marie (Lucas) Woolard; 9 grandchildren; sisters, Karen (Timothy) Hunke and Cheryl Wells; brother in law, Alan M. (Margaret) Failla; sisters in law, Susan M. (Thomas) Jekielek and Betty Lou (Thomas) Szczotka; several nieces and nephews. Howard was predeceased by his parents, Howard Sr. and Marguerite.
