Gladys Elizabeth Batkins

Mrs. Gladys Elizabeth Batkins, age 100 of Chesterfield Township, passed away Thursday at Story Point Senior Living in Chesterfield Township.

She was born on October 13, 1922 in Mount Clemens, Michigan, a daughter of the late Frederick and Hilda (Schott) Pruehs. In 1938 Gladys was United in marriage with Emmett Burgess. Emmett died in World War II on March 30, 1945. Later Gladys was united in marriage with Clifford Kenneth Batkins Sr. on May 31, 1947 at St. John Lutheran Church in Fraser. Clifford passed away on November 27, 2006.

Gladys was a hair stylist and enjoyed bowling. She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Mount Clemens and the Women's Auxiliary.

Gladys is survived by 3 daughters, Charlotte James, Gail Reinhartsen and Nona (Thomas) McKay; 9 grandchildren and many great and great great grandchildren. Gladys was predeceased by a son, Clifford Kenneth Batkins, Jr., 4 siblings, Carl, Florence, Alice and Milton.

Visiting hours are on Friday, August 25, 2023 from 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm in the Will and Schwarzkoff Funereal Home, 233 Northbound Gratiot Avenue, Mount Clemens.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. (in state at 10:00 a.m.) at Zion United Church of Christ, 68 New Street, Mount Clemens with Pastor Scott Davis officiating. Private burial will follow at Clinton Grove Cemetery, Clinton Township.
