Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Debra Ann Vandecar, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who peacefully departed this world on October 26, 2026, after a short battle with leukemia. Born on April 15, 1957, in Mount Clemens, Michigan, Debra was the cherished daughter of August and Betty (nee Lusco) Allemon.

Debra lived a life full of love and devotion, first as a dedicated wife to her late husband, Richard Vandecar, Sr., whom she married on June 19, 1976. Together, they shared 40 beautiful years, raising two children in Harrison Township. Her family was her greatest pride and joy, and she nurtured them with an abundance of love and care.

A proud graduate of L'Anse Creuse High School North, Class of 1976, Debra invested her life in her family and community as a homemaker. Her commitment to her loved ones was unwavering, and she was known for her warm and welcoming nature, often sending out the first Christmas card of the season, much to the delight of those who cherished her thoughtfulness.

Her passion for life extended beyond family. Debra was an ardent fan of the Detroit Tigers, and her love for animals was evident in the way she cared for her pets, particularly dogs and cats. Her green thumb was the envy of many, as she found joy in planting flowers and garden vegetables. A skilled knitter and crocheter, Debra’s creations were treasured gifts, crafted with love and care.

Debra’s enthusiasm for Star Trek earned her the affectionate title of a Trekkie, a testament to her adventurous spirit and curiosity. Her involvement with the L'Anse Creuse Ham Radio Club showcased her dedication to community and communication, as she enjoyed connecting with others and sharing her interests.

Debra was predeceased by her devoted husband, Richard Vandecar, Sr.; her parents, August and Betty Allemon; and siblings Patricia, August, Jr., and Frank. Her legacy of love and kindness lives on through her children, Richard (Kate) of Warren and Jennifer of Harrison Township; her adored grandson, Dennis; her siblings Richard (Charlene) Allemon of New Haven, Mary Allemon of Macomb, and Michael (Amy) Allemon of Clarkston. She had several nieces and nephews, including Joshua Allemon of Waterford and Jacob Allemon of Macomb.

A service to honor and celebrate Debra’s life will be held on October 30, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00. p.m. at Will & Schwarzkoff Funeral Home, 233 Northbound Gratiot, Mount Clemens, MI 48043. Family and friends are invited to gather and remember the warmth and joy that Debra brought into their lives.

Debra Vandecar will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, kindness, and laughter will remain in the hearts of all who knew her. May she rest in peace, reunited with her beloved Richard and family.
