Cynthia Jane
Fitzgerald
Mar 29, 1962 — Dec 21, 2018
Cynthia Jane Fitzgerald (Arnold, 56) passed away in the early hours of the Winter Solstice, December 21st, 2018. Cindy was born on March 29th, 1962 to the late James Arnold and Mary Jane Peck (Donald) and was a long-time resident of Mount Clemens, MI. She went peacefully and painlessly after a short, yet intense battle with lung cancer. Cindy kept her sharp mind and keen sense of humor, and had accepted her illness while having time spent with family and friends, laughter as the most effective medicine.
Cindy grew up in, and graduated from high school in St. Albans, VT. She continued her studies at Macomb Community College after moving home to Michigan, finishing her schooling at Wayne State University ultimately obtaining a B.A. in English.
Cindy was active in, and absolutely loved her Mount Clemens community. She attended her church, Zion United Church of Christ, for over 30 years and was employed in the Mount Clemens School District as a substitute teacher; a career which allowed her garner the love of many students and afforded her the opportunity to be a stay-at-home mother. Cindy never could find the ability to turn off her 'teacher mode', and was ready to give very useful advice over a wide range of subjects to anyone who needed support.
Whether it be quilting, gardening, golfing, bowling, spending time with her not-so-serious book club or doing various remodeling/restoration projects, Cindy brought passion and skill to any project that she approached. She was the family's architect and general contractor, working to restore many houses into warm homes for her children and friends. Her abilities are on full display in the incredible transformation of the interior/exterior renovations of her 'project home', 105 Crocker Blvd. Most of all though, she loved to spend her free-time reading outside on her front porch and was always quick to give books as presents for any occasion.
Cindy simply cherished the relationships with, and loved her family and friends. She is survived by her husband of 33 years, John, daughter Rebecca Jane, son Sean and his darling wife Caitlin (Jordan) and grandson Oliver. She is also survived by her sisters Cathryn Parsons (Alan), Kristen Arnold and Karla (Glen) Dudasik and sister-in-law Charlotte Wyatt wife of the late James W. Arnold. Surviving nieces Alaena & Kelsey Parsons, Lily Dudasik, Jessica & Julia Gillette and nephews James Arnold, Liam Parsons, Lee Dudasik and Joel Gillette. She's also survived by the Fitzgerald family, Allen (Shirley), and her sister-in-law, Joyce (Ed). Cindy loved spending time on the couch with her fur-babies Gussie, Boots, and her grand-dog Ellie.
She will be especially missed by her mother, Maiia and Pops, her dad of 34 years.
The family would like to especially thank Cindy's friends, namely the not-so-serious book club in Bev Forton, Sherry Forster, Kathy Tinkler, Nancy Mitchell and Mary Honsel, for the many great memories that were created on the porch of her home.
Visitation will be held at Zion United Church of Christ* (68 New Street, Mt. Clemens, MI) on Wednesday, December 26 from 5PM to 9PM and Thursday, December 27th from 10AM to 11AM followed by the funeral service starting at 11AM. Parking will be most accessible off of the New Street and Pine Street intersection. * Evidence of Cindy's beautiful work will be on full display at Zion in two eight-foot tall banners hanging high above both sides of the altar during the service.
Funeral arrangements were made through Will and Schwarzkoff.
