Barbara Couto, age 78 of Harrison Township, passed away Friday afternoon at her home.

She was born May 27, 1939 to Harley and Joyce (Dickey) Smith in Belleville, Michigan. On May 26, 1962 Barbara was united in marriage with Gilbert Couto in Anchorage, Alaska.

Mrs. Couto was a member of the Detroit Power Squadron, and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. She enjoyed sewing, reading, an especially loved being with her grandchildren.
Surviving are her daughters, Kristi (Edward) Roxbury, Karla (Ron) Carafelly; grandchildren, Jacob Novack, Taylor Novack; siblings, Lynn Smith, Gloria McQuaid; step mother, Donna Smith; step sister, Susan Decker; step brother, Alan Ayoubee; half sisters, Sharon and Mary. Barbara was predeceased by her husband, Gilbert; parents, Harley and Joyce, and her step father, Robert Murdock.

A eulogy service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 29, 2017 with visiting to begin at 10:00 a.m. at Will and Schwarzkoff Funeral Home, 233 Northbound Gratiot, Mount Clemens.
