Mount Clemens
August Albert Querio
On Friday, July 8, 2022, August Querio, passed away at the age of 82.
Gus was born on June 22, 1940 in Detroit, MI to Frank and Jennie (Verhoy) Querio, and grew up in St. Clair Shores.
A graduate of South Lake High School, he continued his education at Western Michigan University, which was paid for by winnings from his father's pigeon racing. With a teaching degree in industrial education under his belt, he began a career that lasted 32 years and touched thousands of students' lives as he moved from Elementary to Middle School and later, High School. Gus continued his studies and received his Masters Degree in Social Work from Wayne State University and traded the classroom for a counseling position. Gus retired in 1994 from Lakeshore Public Schools.
Gus met the love of his life, Junia Dalman, at Warren Woods Public Schools. They were married on August 29, 1964 and raised two daughters Jennifer and Meribeth. They began their DIY journey by restoring a Vintage Ford and later a historic house in Mt. Clemens.
He loved people, cars, sailing, skiing, cross country road trip adventures and Mt Clemens Basketball games. Gus was a man with as much heart, as he had ingenuity. He was the MacGyver of Lincoln Street. He could fix anything. Gus always had parts and tools for any job, and if he didn't, he'd make them. And if not, there was always duct tape.
Besides his family, he had two loves: his 1930 Model A and his 1965 Ford Mustang. An avid car guy, he could identify any car from the 40's, 50's or 60's by a mere glance of the tail lights. He could often be found at antique car shows and passed his love of cars onto his daughters.
In his retirement years his favorite things were playing with his grandchildren, Martin and Annica. Traveling, fishing, reading, and making snowmen were later followed by cheering at athletic events, attending band concerts, dancing and cruising in the Mustang.
He was preceded in death by his sister Marion (Querio) Meek. He is survived by his wife Junia and daughters, Jennifer Querio and Meribeth (Michael) Brocker-Querio, grandchildren, Annica Brocker and Martin-Andres M. Querio (Jayna), nieces and nephews, and two exchange students that he considered daughters: Louise Kelley and Sandra Millan.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 16th, 2022 at the First United Methodist in Mount Clemens on the corner of Cass Ave and SB Gratiot at 11:00 a.m. A celebration of life will be held following the service.
