Jan 27, 1928 — Jan 30, 2022
Arthur F. Roese, a lifetime resident of Mount Clemens and more recently of Utica, Michigan, passed away on Sunday, January 30, 2022 at the age of 94. He was born January 27, 1928 in Mount Clemens to the late Arthur D. and Katherine M. Halpape Roese. On May 23, 1953 he was joined in marriage to Clela M. Hartman. Together they celebrated 50 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on July 15, 2003.
After high school he served in the U.S. Navy, stationed near Long Beach, California at the end of World War II. Following this he worked for the Macomb County Road Commission for 32 years, retiring at the age of 60. He was an active member of Zion United Church of Christ in Mount Clemens his entire life; serving as an usher, as a member of the mens' Brotherhood and singing in the choir. He was also a member of the Grosse Pointe Lakeshore Barbershop Chorus for many years. He shared his love of music with his family, known for singing around the piano at the holidays or breaking out a boogie-woogie routine on the piano.
Mr. Roese was always interested in keeping active and pursing leisure interests. He was an avid outdoorsman, engaging in all-season fishing on Lake St. Clair, small game hunting and enjoyed camping with his family across Michigan and the United States. He could often be found in his downstairs workshop engaging in copper tooling, leather working or stained glass projects. After his retirement, he and his wife continued their interest in traveling by visiting Alaska, Hawaii and Germany.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, including his children Janis (Hamid) Alousi, Richard (Shelley) Roese, and his 5 grandchildren Toni Lyn, John, Brittany (Stephen), Rachelle and Adnan and his great- grandson Derrick. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Clela, and sister Elizabeth.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 5 at Zion United Church of Christ from 9:30-11:00 a.m. prior to the service at 11:00 with Pastor Scott Davis officiating. Burial will follow at the Clinton Grove Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Zion United Church of Christ.
