In loving memory of Arlene Carol Walker who passed away unexpectedly Saturday morning, June 24, 2017. Arlene was born in Poughkeepsie, New York on April 14, 1932 to Bertram and Martha Traver.
Arlene's young life took a dramatic turn when they moved to Detroit during the 1940's, and settled in the housing projects in Hamtramck. It was there she would meet the boy next door, who came be the love of her life, Charles Thomas Walker. Charles and Arlene were united in marriage on September 02, 1947. That union was blessed with 6 sons and 5 daughters. From a young girl, Arlene had always wanted to have a large family and she was happy being a homemaker. As the years unfolded she would come to be a grandmother to 24 and great grandmother to 7, which were truly the highlight of her later years. Another aspect of her life that was of utmost importance, was her love for her faith. She was baptized in 1981 and proud to be one of Jehovah's Witnesses. Part of her daily routine consisted of morning Bible reading, and after the passing of Charles in 2015 it was her Bible based hope of seeing him again that kept her going.
Arlene loved cooking, sewing and working in her flower beds. Most of all she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Arlene is survived by her eleven children, Caroline Zoran, Charles (Angela) Walker, Gerald (Jeanie) Walker, Kathy (Rick) Schenkel, Steven Walker, Nancy Walker, Charlene Ryder, Janet Wyne, Thomas (Jackie) Walker, Paul Walker, and Matthew (Jana) Walker; one sibling, Martha Poinbouef; 24 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren and 1 due this fall.
Arlene was known for her kindness and generosity. She cared and was concerned about everyone.
